Counter Surfing

I'm making chocolate chip cookies for a Superbowl party at friend's tonight. I put two sticks of butter on the counter to come to room temperature, then Bob and I ran a couple of errands.

When we got back there was only one stick of butter on the counter. One, forlorn stick of butter. I walked all around the house, checked behind the couch, I can't even find the waxed paper wrapper. Shelly is eight inches tall. I realize I cannot say for certain what happened to that stick of butter, but I cannot but help but point the finger.

Hudson told me an evil beast with long strawberry-blonde hair broke into the house and tried to steal your butter! Lucky for you he was there and managed to SAVE one of your sticks of butter! Geez, show a little gratitude!!!!!!

So, you had to make half as many cookies? Who didn't get one?

We lost our once-a-year filet mignon to Stella when she was smaller (and then wiser than we). Now we are safe as long as things are pushed back a foot from the edge.

Yesterday a workmate brought still warm bagels and cream cheese to work. My boss grabbed a with everything bagel and took it to his office. He remembered he'd left his coffee in the kitchen and went back. When he returned, Jamie the office dog was slinking out of Mark's office. No bagel anywhere and the plate was on the floor. It is a mystery.

I've heard that eating a stick of butter has certain intestinal consequences for a dog. Any sign of such?

I'm reminded of a Homer Simpson quote: "Couldn't you try a non-delicious fat? Oh, there's no such thing!"

Ted, so far I have seen no signs of intestinal discomfort, frequent or delayed intestinal function, or illness.

Leslie, I had one more stick of butter in the fridge. I now let my butter come to room temperature on top of the refrigerator.

Maureen, you really can't expect him to maintain his naturally shiny fur on dog food alone, can you?

Lil's dad once put a steak on the counter to marinate. He walked out of the kitchen for a few minutes, and when he came back... looked around... "thought I left it right here..."

He spent forever looking for the steak. Sadie was, of course, sitting in the next room with a very happy look on her face.

Goldens are very fast eaters.

At least he didn't manage to get into your chocolate - he probably wouldn't be so smiley if he had!
